I'm Johnny Stott, and I've been fixing, building, and improving homes across Yorkshire for years. But I didn't start out in the trades.
I spent two decades working as a mechanical engineer. It was a career built on precision — measuring to the millimetre, solving problems methodically, and never cutting corners because the consequences of getting it wrong were real. When I moved into property maintenance, that mindset came with me.
These days, I apply those same engineering standards to everything I do — from laying a patio that drains properly to building a fence that's actually level. I'm City & Guilds qualified in multiple trades, and I'm always learning. But the engineering background is what sets me apart.
Why I started Home Helpers
I set up Home Helpers because I saw too many people getting let down by tradespeople. Jobs left half-finished. Quotes that doubled by the end. Mess left behind. I thought: I can do better than that.
I work to a simple set of rules:
- I quote honestly. The price I give you is the price you pay.
- I turn up when I say I will.
- I do the job to your spec. Not my version of it. Yours.
- I leave the place tidy. All rubbish taken away.
- I tell you if something's not my area. I won't touch gas work.
